Paperweights
Another exciting year, full of hockey adventure,
has arrived here
at the Port Credit Hockey Association. In our in-house program we
have 8 Paperweight teams with the majority of games played on Saturday mornings at 7:00
a.m., 7:50 a.m., 8:50 a.m., or 9:40 a.m. This year there are also 3
games scheduled for Sunday afternoons.
Practice times are scheduled for every
Sunday. Each team will have 50 minutes of half ice practice time at 3:30
p.m., 4:20 p.m., 5:10 p.m., or 6:00 p.m. All Practices are on a
rotating basis!
The Paperweight Division of the Port
Credit Hockey Association has an excellent reputation for being a good learning
experience for young hockey players, and it should be our objective that all
children learn as much as possible and that they enjoy playing the game.
To
ensure that the players learn during
a game, please enjoy the game from the EAST side of the rink. (No
standing behind team benches.)
Paperweight Rules
- Each game consists of three 15 minute periods, with a three minute buzzer system in effect
- The offside rule is in effect to start the season for
the red line only. Offsides will be called against the white
line as of December 1st, and as of January 1st
2008, offsides are called on all three lines. There are no icing calls.
- All players receive equal
playing time.
- Penalties will only be called on a
flagrant foul. It is expected of the individual coaches to control and teach
the players of the flagrant fouls, i.e. slashing, crosschecking, high-sticking,
etc. The penalty will be the remainder of the shift , but at
the discretion of the referee the penalty could
also be prolonged into the next timed shift.
- Any player injured during play must
leave the ice surface to seek medical attention. The
player may only return on a whistle as long as his shift has not expired.
- The goaltender can only be pulled for
an extra attacker on the final shift of the game, in which any player on
the roster can join the play. If the blue line is on the last shift of the
game the goaltender cannot be pulled.
- When a player is absent, you can only double shift
players evenly from the skill level below.
- All players must wear full equipment including CSA
approved helmet/mask and BNQ approved hockey
collars.
- Due to the schedule allotted, we must
be off the ice by 10:30 a.m. Therefore the timekeeper, at
his discretion, will stop play due to an injury to a player, for a maximum of
5 minutes for any one game. The buzzer will sound at
the end of each 3 minute shift. It is imperative that you have your team
organized to get on and off the ice to maximize the playing time.
- The final standings
decide play-off format: 1st, 3rd, 5th & 7th into Pool "A" and
2nd, 4th, 6th & 8th into Pool "B".
